The History behind Hotel Casa Fuster

Hotel Casa Fuster, constructed in 1908 and completely restored in 2004, born of the rehabilitation of the emblematic modernist building of the famous Catalan architect Lluís Domenech i Montaner known as "Casa Fuster".

It can be defined as the most emblematic designer hotel, quite simply because it is.

The "casa" was a gift from the Señor Fuster to his wife, with the underlying intention to make the city of Barcelona more beautiful.

It was the posthumous work of the architect that completed the building which at that time, was considered the most expensive house in the Catalan capital; due to the high quality materials such as marble that were used in its construction.

The Hoteles Center chain acquired the building in 2000 rehabilitated it using the utmost respect to the building's originality while at the same time optimized the spectacular architectural singularity. The hotel opened it's doors in 2004.

Casa Fuster is not just the culmination of  of Domènech i Montaner's masterpiece, but also a building that projects great dignity, it's the crowning closure to the Eixample neighborhood, it is also the symbol of the greatest period of splendor and prosperity Barcelona has experienced during the past hundred years.

Close Up

Over one hundred years ago, in 1908, the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, creator of masterpieces like “Palau de la Música Catalana” (Started in Barcelona the construction of a building commissioned by Mariano Fuster). Mr Fuster, was a high standing member of Mallorcan society. This very surname will forever remain associated with the building which he had intended to be a gift for his wife , Consuelo Fabra i Puig whom he met in the Catalan capital. This is where the history of Casa Fuster began.

The history that has unfolded in these past hundred years has been intense. In 1911 The Fuster and Fabra families moved into the main floor. At that time it was considered the most expensive house in the city. In 1922 the building was acquired by D. Jaume Ymbern Fort. The building was transformed into a cultural epicenter of the city starting with Café Vienés which was inaugurated at the beginning of the twenties and was the cultural and social meeting point for artists intellectuals and members of high society, which is a tradition that continues on today provided by Hoteles Center- Grupo Noga.

In 1960 the electric company ENHER purchased the building for 11 million pesetas (approx. 66 thousand Euros) and after a failed attempt to demolish the building (an act to which the entire Barcelonan society was opposed), instead began its restoration. Finally, its transformation into the hotel world begin in the year 2000, when it was acquired by Hoteles Center who belongs to Grupo Noga and after an ambitious but respectful remodeling project, it was converted into Hotel Casa Fuster, the only 5* monument to grand luxury .
